Champions 2011 Honorees

Helping Hand Home for Children is pleased to announce that the Champions for Children Awards luncheon breaks its revenue record raising more than $252,000 to help abused, neglected and abandoned children. 

 

Wes Moore, author of the New York Times bestseller, The Other Wes Moore served as keynote speaker. A youth advocate, Army combat veteran, businessman and nonprofit leader, Wes Moore has been featured by The Oprah Winfrey Show, People Magazine, USA Today, Essence, The View, Meet the Press, Charlie Rose and most recently Time Magazine.

 

Co-Chairs for the 2011 Champions for Children luncheon were Kathy and Joe Petet. Ron Franklin served as master of ceremonies and KXAN’s Leslie Rhode was the special guest awards presenter.

 

Each year, Helping Hand Home honors caregivers and volunteers who have been selected for their exemplary work with children in need. The 2011 Honorees included: Student Volunteers from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, Sarah Smith with Foster Angels of Central Texas, Foster parents Marie and Wayne Michels, Cynthia Pennick with Helping Hand Home and Sandra A. Martin, CEO, Center for Child Protection.  The 2011 Philanthropic Honoree was the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.
